Novel hydrogel from functionalized glycerol and microfibrillated cellulose: towards an environmentally-friendly design

Glycerol is one of the major residues obtained during biodiesel transesterification. Microfibrillated cellulose was from empty bunches palm oil, which a residue biomass extracted oil. Therefore, objective this work to apply two important oil chemistry industry, glycerol and lignocellulose biomass, in addition acrylic acid synthesize polymer matrix form hydrogel for water absorption applications. To produce matrix, modified with obtain n-acylglycerol macromonomer different reactive groups. The solution polymerizations were carried out between macromonomer, bis-acrylamide presence microfibrillated (obtained oil) hydrogels. final material presented high capacity swelling water. best considering contained 25 wt% 5 microfiber absorbed 1400% its own weight when produced optimized condition.
